Rainy Day Activities in Kerry

Image
Ireland — and County Kerry in particular — is one of the most beautiful places in the world when the sun shines. But thanks to our spot on the edge of Europe, right out in the wild Atlantic, we also get more than our fair share of rain and famously unpredictable weather. If you happen to be visiting in August, you might enjoy my post Puck Fair in Killorglin – Ireland’s Oldest Festival , which gives a look at what makes this famous Kerry event so special (even when it rains!). We’d love nothing more than to guarantee you perfect blue skies to match the stunning scenery — but that’s not something even the Irish can promise. As the Irish comedian Pat Shortt once joked: “ It would be a lovely little country if you could only roof it. ” The good news is that rainy days don’t have to ruin your plans. Kerry is packed with great indoor activities, hidden gems, and local experiences that make the most of a drizzly day. Whether you're looking for things to do in Tralee when it rains, ...

Best Takeaway in Tralee (For When You Don’t Want to Cook)

Image
Some evenings you just don’t feel like cooking and that’s where a good takeaway saves the day. Whether it’s comfort food after work, a quick family dinner, or something to enjoy in front of a film, Tralee has plenty of options. I’ve picked out a few of my favourites in no particular order of importance, places I’ve tried myself and would happily recommend if you’re looking for a reliable takeaway in town. To save on fees for service and delivery I would advise ordering: over the counter first, via their website second and Just Eat third  If you want recommendations, always ask a local first!

Best Pubs in Tralee for a Night Out - Local Guide

Image
A Night Out in Tralee – Then and Now  🍻 Once upon a time, Tralee was one of the liveliest nights out in the county, packed pubs, buzzing nightclubs and the kind of weekend energy you could feel in the air. If you were around in the '90s or early 2000s, you'll know what I mean. Every weekend felt like an event, and for many of us, those memories still stand out. These days, the town still has its moments - especially from Thursday nights through the weekend or during big events - but like many Irish towns, the nightlife has evolved. It’s a bit more laid-back now, a little more local, but not without its charm. What follows is a local’s guide to some of the best pubs around town, a mix of music spots, sports bars, hidden gems, and quiet corners. When the weather turns damp and your outdoor plans fall through, why not try something completely different — indoors and hands-on? That’s where my Woodturning Experiences and Woodturning Tuition come in. Read on and revisited the links, they are also at the end of the post.
