Best Takeaway in Tralee (For When You Don’t Want to Cook)
Some evenings you just don’t feel like cooking and that’s where a good takeaway saves the day. Whether it’s comfort food after work, a quick family dinner, or something to enjoy in front of a film, Tralee has plenty of options.
I’ve picked out a few of my favourites in no particular order of importance, places I’ve tried myself and would happily recommend if you’re looking for a reliable takeaway in town. To save on fees for service and delivery I would advise ordering: over the counter first, via their website second and Just Eat third
If you want recommendations, always ask a local first!
And if you’d prefer to sit down for a meal out, don’t miss my guide to the Best Restaurants in Tralee for Evening Dining. You might also fancy a pint of an evening and my post Best Pubs in Tralee for a Night Out may help you out in your planning.
The Rose Garden Chinese
A long-standing favourite in Tralee, The Rose Garden is known for generous portions, good value, and fast service. Their house specials are always popular, but you can’t go wrong with the classics either — sweet and sour chicken, crispy shredded beef, or a comforting curry with fried rice. We have been ordering from this takeaway for years.
If you’re after proper Chinese takeaway that hits the spot every time, Rose Garden is hard to beat. They are available on The Rose Garden on Just Eat or direct from their website: The Rose Garden. You can also ring or pop your head in the door to order. This is cheaper as there are no service or delivery fees.
Ummie’s Grill - formerly Vivaburg
The newly refurbished Ummie’s Grill has built up a bit of a following lately and after watching a few customer videos online I thought I'd give it a go. I was a bit reluctant to order as I still feel a bit of loyalty to the old Vivaburg brand. My first order dispelled any doubts about the new set up. The Chicken Breast Burger and chips hit the spot. Portions are filling, and the menu has enough variety to suit both a quick bite and a full-on feast.
It’s also a solid late-night option when most other takeaways have closed their doors. You can find Ummie's Grill on Just Eat or their own website Ummie's Grill here. Drop in and order or delivery service is available.
MJ’s Diner
MJ’s is one of those places locals have relied on for years. It has the feel of a classic American-style diner, and the food follows through — burgers, pizzas, chicken, and loaded fries. It’s a family-friendly spot, but also perfect for ordering in when you want a comfort food night at home. It's a busy spot with lots of regulars so get in early with your order. This is one of my Saturday night takeaway options and it's very handy to get it right to the door.
Their pizzas and chicken boxes are especially good value if you’re feeding a group. You can find MJ's Diner on Just Eat or their own website MJ's Diner here. Drop in and order or delivery service is available.
Kaleli Kebabs
When I'm in town having a few beers, I always have this place in mind and pick up a quarter pounder and chips to eat there or take home in a Taxi. Parking spots on the main street are very few but there is a small car park next to Dom O'Donnells Furniture just up the street a little. I also tried the Chicken Kebab here with the chili & garlic sauce. They have only started delivering in the last year I believe so this is a handy option when too comfortable at home to drive into town and collect.
You can find Kaleli Kebabs on Just Eat , they have a website but it seems to be just a placeholder. Drop in and order yourself or delivery service is available.

Want to be Included here?
If you are a local takeaway and would like to be mentioned here in this post, send me a message through the Contact form. The only stipulation is that I must have used your takeaway at some point so the recommendation is personal and valid. If any of the takeaways have pictures of food or their premises, I would be happy to include with your section. Please use the Contact form.More Options Around Town
Of course, these are just four of the mainstays, there are others I haven't visited in a while. Depending on your tastes, you’ll find plenty more takeaways in Tralee, from chip shops to pizzerias and international flavours. It’s worth trying a few different places until you find your own favourites, every local seems to have one they’ll swear by.
I'm generally loyal to places if their food is good quality and they are fairly reliable with deliveries.
Final Thoughts
Takeaway food is one of those small pleasures we all lean on now and then. Tralee has plenty to offer, whether you’re in the mood for Chinese, grilled, or classic diner-style comfort. Whether it's a takeaway, sit-down meal or some grub in a pub you're after, Tralee has it for you when you visit.
