Is Amazon Prime Worth It in Ireland – or the UK?

Short answer: for me, yes — but only because I use it regularly.

I have been paying for Amazon Prime for years while living in Ireland, originally through Amazon UK and now with Amazon Ireland available as another option.

For regular Amazon shoppers, Prime can still be very good value. Free Prime delivery is the obvious attraction, but I also use Prime Video and occasionally benefit from Prime-only prices and offers.

However, Prime is not automatically worth paying for.

If you only order from Amazon a handful of times each year, you may struggle to save enough on delivery to justify another subscription. And Irish shoppers now have another complication: Amazon UK and Amazon Ireland do not always work out at the same price once delivery, duties and the newer import charges are taken into account.

My rule is simple:

If you regularly order at least two or three Amazon parcels a month, Prime is probably worth considering. If you barely use Amazon, it probably isn't.

In this post I'll go through what I actually get from Prime, what I use, what I largely ignore, and whether I still think it represents good value for someone shopping from Ireland in 2026.

What Do You Actually Get With Amazon Prime in Ireland?

Amazon Prime is one of those subscriptions I ignored for years. I kept seeing the little “Prime” logo beside products on Amazon UK but assumed it was just another monthly bill for something I didn't really need.

That changed when I started ordering from Amazon more regularly. I was buying things that were difficult to find in Ireland, delivery charges were adding up, and eventually I decided to try the free trial and see whether Prime actually saved me anything.

It did.

For me, the biggest benefit has always been delivery. Amazon UK currently includes Priority Delivery to Ireland on eligible Prime items at no extra cost, and when you're ordering regularly those individual delivery charges can quickly add up.

Prime Video was the other surprise. I originally treated it as a free extra attached to the delivery subscription, but over the years I've watched enough films and TV series through it that it now adds genuine value for me.

There are some smaller benefits too, including Prime Reading and access to certain Prime-only offers, but I wouldn't personally subscribe for those alone.

Looking back, I probably hesitated for longer than I needed to. If you're ordering from Amazon several times a month, the delivery savings alone can make Prime worthwhile. If you only order occasionally, the calculation is very different.

Who Is Amazon Prime Actually Worth It For?

I think Prime makes the most sense for people who already use Amazon regularly.

It is probably worth considering if:

You order from Amazon several times each month.
You regularly choose Prime-eligible products.
You use Prime Video as well as the delivery benefits.
You sometimes take advantage of Prime-only prices or sale events.
You value getting smaller orders delivered without constantly thinking about postage.

On the other hand, I would not sign up simply because Amazon keeps offering you a free trial.

If you only place a few Amazon orders each year, it may be cheaper to pay for delivery when you need it or simply wait until you have several things to order together.

Prime works for me because Amazon is already part of how I shop. The subscription isn't what makes me shop there.

My Personal Prime Experience

Even after finally trying the Amazon Prime free trial, I still expected to cancel. I thought I would use it for a month, get a few deliveries without extra postage, and then move on.

Instead, it gradually became part of how I shop.

Living in Ireland, there are still plenty of products that are easier to find on Amazon than locally, especially more specialised or unusual items. Prime made those orders simpler and, when I was ordering regularly, the delivery savings quickly became noticeable.

Over time, I also started using Prime Video more than I expected. I would never have subscribed to Prime purely for the streaming service, but as an extra benefit it has certainly added value.

What has changed more recently is how I use Amazon itself. I no longer automatically assume Amazon UK is the best option. With Amazon Ireland now available, I compare both sites before ordering because the final price can vary once delivery, duties and other charges are taken into account.

Prime is still worthwhile for me because I use Amazon regularly enough to justify it. But I also try to check whether an Irish business has what I need first. If the difference is only a few euro, I would rather support an Irish retailer where I can.

Amazon Prime Ireland vs Amazon UK – Check Both Before You Buy

One thing has changed significantly for Irish shoppers: I no longer assume Amazon UK will automatically be the best place to order.

I now check both Amazon Ireland and Amazon UK.

The same basket can work out differently once you take the product price, delivery, duties and import-related charges into account. On some orders Amazon Ireland has been clearly cheaper for me, while Amazon UK can still have products or sellers that are unavailable on the Irish site.

If you order frequently enough, having access to Prime on both sites can even make sense, although obviously that means paying for two subscriptions and will only suit heavier Amazon users.

The important point is that Prime itself does not guarantee the cheapest overall order.

Check the final basket price on both sites before pressing Buy.

📦 Free Delivery

Who doesn't like free shipping? This applies to most items on Amazon, you must remember that there are independent sellers too and they charge for some shipping.

📺 Prime Video

This has turned out to be a very handy add on and I have spent many hours watch movies and TV shows. The collection isn't as vast as some other subscriptions but it isn't short on stuff to watch. Considering the fact it is free, why not use it.

📚 Prime Reading

Access to a rotating library of eBooks, magazines, comics, and more — read on any device with the Kindle app.

📷 Prime Photos

Secure, unlimited photo storage with Amazon Photos — keep your memories safe and accessible anywhere.

🎵 Prime Music

Stream over two million songs ad-free, with playlists and stations tailored to your taste.

⚡ Early Access to Deals

Get 30-minute early access to Lightning Deals and exclusive Prime-only discounts.

Other Amazon Services You Might Use, Only on Amazon UK

Amazon also has several separate subscription services that are not included as part of the standard Prime membership.

Amazon Music Unlimited

Amazon Music Unlimited is Amazon’s full music streaming service, with a much larger catalogue than the basic music access included with Prime. It includes ad-free listening, downloads for offline use and Alexa integration.

Audible

Audible is Amazon’s audiobook service, with a large library covering fiction, non-fiction, biographies, history, sci-fi and plenty more. It is separate from Prime, although Amazon regularly offers free or discounted trials.

Amazon Kids+

Amazon Kids+ combines children’s books, games, educational apps, videos and other age-appropriate content in one subscription. Parents can also control screen time, content access and individual child profiles.

Kindle Unlimited

Kindle Unlimited gives subscribers access to a large rotating library of eBooks, magazines and some audiobooks through Kindle devices or the Kindle app. It can be useful for heavy readers, but it is separate from the books and reading benefits included with Prime.

So, Is Amazon Prime Worth It in Ireland?

If you're looking for better value in entertainment, delivery, or just everyday convenience, Amazon Prime has a lot to offer. Used properly, it can easily pay for itself over time.

I’ve used it for years ordering from Ireland through the UK site, and for me, it’s become one of those things I just keep renewing without thinking twice.
