Is the LEGO Star Wars Death Star Worth the Money?
When it comes to LEGO Star Wars, few sets carry the same weight as the new LEGO Death Star 75419. It’s massive, instantly recognisable, and easily one of the most ambitious sets LEGO has ever produced. For collectors, it’s the kind of build that doesn’t just sit on a shelf, it becomes the centrepiece of a collection. Perfectly displayable as it has a flat back, any wall space will do.
I’ve already looked at some of the heavy hitters in the UCS (Ultimate Collector Series), including my post on the UCS Millennium Falcon and a recent deep dive into the UCS Venator. The Death Star deserves its own spotlight, not only because of its sheer size, but also because it sparks one big question: is it really worth the money? I'll try and answer that below if I can.

The Death Star isn’t just a display piece; it’s a sprawling playset with multiple levels, iconic scenes, and over 38 minifigures. From the control room to the detention block, it brings together some of the most famous Star Wars moments in one build. At over 9,000 pieces, it’s one of the biggest LEGO sets ever made and easily one of the most immersive.
That size, quantity of bricks and figures alone makes it worth it in my opinion. I was very proud to buy the UCS Star Destroyer and original UCS Millennium Falcon when they first appeared, both touted as the biggest sets ever created and now this one dwarfs both. If you are a serious collector, this one is definitely for you, for bragging rights, for an ultra display.

The crown jewel of UCS sets, with over 7,500 pieces – the ultimate collector’s build.
The Falcon was the biggest LEGO Star Wars set ever released at one time and arguably the holy grail for UCS collectors. It’s also one of the most expensive, but it delivers unmatched detail and scale.

I recently reviewed the Venator in detail for my own wishlist, and it’s fast becoming one of the most desirable UCS ships. It captures the Clone Wars aesthetic perfectly and offers a satisfying build for fans of that era.

So, Is the Death Star Worth It?
The answer depends on whether you’re a casual builder or a serious collector. For a casual Star Wars fan, the Death Star’s price tag is undeniably steep. But if you’re someone who sees LEGO not just as a toy but as a centrepiece hobby and display collection, it’s worth every cent.
You’re getting:
● An enormous build that dominates a shelf or display case
● A ton of minifigures (heroes, villains, and stormtroopers galore)
● Hours upon hours of build time
● A conversation piece that instantly impresses anyone who sees it
For a UCS collector, skipping the Death Star would leave a pretty big hole in your lineup. It might not be the absolute biggest set ever but it is for the LEGO Star Wars theme. It’s certainly one of the most iconic sets and it deserves a spot next to the Falcon and or Venator.
That said, I’m personally saving for the Venator right now, so the Death Star will have to wait a little while for me. But make no mistake, it’s firmly on my wishlist.
Conclusion: If you’re serious about Star Wars LEGO, the Death Star is not just worth the money – it’s essential.
Thanks for Reading and happy building if you buy!
David
