Why a Woodturner in Kerry Sells Ribbon, Bows and Craft Supplies

If you search for satin ribbon in Ireland and see David Condon Woodcraft in the results next to all the haberdashery & other ribbon suppliers, I can understand why you might pause for a second.

A woodcraft website selling ribbon, bows, gift bags and craft supplies probably sounds a little unexpected. You might be confused as to why this has appeared in your search question. If you clicked on the link, you might reasonably wonder whether you have landed on the right kind of site at all.

The simple answer is yes, you have.

David Condon Woodcraft is best known for woodturning, handmade Irish wood gifts and woodturning tuition, but the business also has a large craft supplies section. I stock satin ribbon, organza ribbon, bows, gift bags, favour boxes, card and embellishments here in Ireland, with products stored separately from the workshop in a clean, dry environment. If a craft item is marked as in stock on my website, it is physically in stock and ready to ship.

That last part matters more than people might realise.

My ribbon and craft supplies are stored separately in labelled Euro containers, away from workshop dust and shavings. These are just 2 of my trolleys, I have several more like this.

Why Craft Supplies Became Part of My Business

David Condon Woodcraft began with woodturning. I make handmade pieces from Irish hardwood, teach woodturning from my workshop in Tralee, and sell woodturning tools and finishes to other turners.

Craft supplies came into the business more gradually.

At first, it was simply another small range alongside what I was already doing. Then, over time, it grew. Customers needed ribbon, bows, bags, boxes, card and other small craft items. Some were buying for weddings. Some were making hampers. Some were card makers, florists, invitation makers, small businesses, or people trying to put together a gift or decoration at short notice.

What started organically has grown into a much larger craft supplies section than I ever expected.

That is why you will now find satin ribbon, organza ribbon, ready-made bows, gift bags, favour boxes, A4 card, embellishments and other supplies on a website with Woodcraft in the name.

It may seem like an unusual mix from the outside, but from my side of the business it makes perfect sense. I already had an online shop, storage space, packing materials, shipping systems and a customer base that appreciated properly stocked products. Craft supplies became another practical part of the business.

I started buying 3mm Satin Ribbon for my own creations and went from there.

Yes, the Ribbon Is Stored Properly

I know the word Woodcraft might make some people picture ribbon sitting beside a lathe, covered in dust and shavings.

That is not the case.

My craft supplies are not stored out in the workshop beside machinery. They are kept separately in clean, dry Euro container boxes, stacked and organised away from wood dust and shavings in my office store.

That matters to me because ribbon, bows, bags and card need to arrive clean and ready to use. Whether someone is preparing wedding favours, tying bows for gift boxes, making invitations, decorating hampers or finishing a craft project, the supplies should be in good condition when they arrive.

So while the website name comes from my woodturning background, the craft supplies side of the business is treated as its own proper stocked range and another distinct side of my business.

If It Says In Stock, It Is Actually In Stock

One of the things I feel strongly about is stock accuracy.

If satin ribbon, organza ribbon, bows, gift bags, boxes, card or embellishments are marked as in stock on my website, they are physically here with me in Ireland.

I do not use backorders just to keep my shop looking full. I always hated websites who claim items in stock but actually backorder missing items and make you wait for them. I prefer honesty up front, always.

That does mean some items may occasionally show as in stock when they have just sold out, but I would rather be honest about stock than take orders for products I do not actually have.

For customers working towards a wedding, craft fair, business order, party, school project or gift deadline, that honesty matters. If something is shown as available, my aim is for it to be physically here and ready to dispatch, not sitting on backorder with an unknown arrival date.

When something is marked in stock, it means I can pick it, pack it and send it.

That is especially useful for customers in Ireland who do not want to wait weeks for small craft items to arrive from overseas.

Who Buys Ribbon and Craft Supplies From Me?

The craft supplies section is used by a wider mix of people than I originally expected.

Customers include:

  • Couples preparing wedding favours or decorations
  • Wedding crafters
  • Florists
  • Invitation makers
  • Hamper makers
  • Card makers
  • Small Irish businesses
  • Gift wrappers
  • Party decorators
  • General crafters

I have helped plenty of people over the years with last-minute arrangements before weddings, so it would be nice to help even more people find what they need in time.

Sometimes it is a roll of ribbon. Sometimes it is a matching bow. Sometimes it is gift bags, favour boxes, card, embellishments or a combination of small things that help finish a project properly.

If you are not sure what size ribbon to choose, I have also written a simple guide to choosing the right ribbon width for gifts and craft projects.

That is one of the reasons I have continued to build the range. Small craft supplies might not look dramatic on their own, but when someone needs the right colour, size or finish, they can become very important very quickly.

Why the Woodcraft Name Remains

The name David Condon Woodcraft is still there because woodturning is where the business began.

I still make handmade wood gifts. I still teach woodturning in Tralee. I still sell woodturning tools and finishes. That part of the business has not gone away.

But like many small businesses, I have had to adapt over the years. Craft supplies became a practical and important part of that adaptation.

The only awkward part is that the name does not immediately tell the whole story anymore.

If someone sees David Condon Woodcraft in a search result for satin ribbon, they may not instantly realise that I also sell ribbon, bows, gift bags, boxes, card and other craft supplies or they may be reluctant to click due to the business name. That is understandable.

But behind the Woodcraft name is a broader small Irish business, with real stock, real storage, and products ready to ship from Ireland.

Do I Make the Ribbon and Bows Myself?

From time to time, I get lovely compliments from customers who assume I make all the ribbon and bows shown on my website.

I would love to take credit for products of that quality, but I always politely explain that the ribbon, bows, bags, boxes, card and embellishments are imported craft supplies that I stock and sell from here in Ireland. The handmade part of my business is the woodcraft side, including my woodturned gifts, pens, ring holders, bowls and other pieces.

Maybe the Woodcraft name causes some of that confusion, or maybe people simply associate my website with handmade products. I do not know for sure, but I think it is worth being clear.

The craft supplies are not handmade by me. They are carefully selected, physically stocked, properly stored and dispatched from my small business in Tralee, Co. Kerry.

For anyone trying to decide between buying ready-made bows or making their own, I have also looked at where each option makes the most sense.

The woodcraft items are made by me. The craft supplies are products I bring in to support crafters, wedding makers, florists, small businesses and anyone who needs ribbon, bows, gift bags, boxes, card or embellishments from an Irish supplier.

You can read more about the different parts of my business on my About page, where I explain how the woodturning, teaching, handmade gifts and craft supplies all fit together.

Handmade Gifts Alongside Craft Supplies

There is another small benefit to the mix of products on the site.

Because I am also a woodturner, customers looking for craft supplies may occasionally find a handmade gift or keepsake at the same time.

My traditional ring holders, for example, can make a lovely small gift for weddings, engagements, anniversaries or bridal party thank-yous. They are not the main reason most people visit the craft supplies section, but they are there for anyone who wants something handmade alongside ribbon, bows or packaging supplies.

That is part of the unusual nature of the site. You can buy craft ribbon and also come across handmade Irish wood gifts, woodturning tools, or information about learning woodturning.

It is not a standard craft supplies shop, but that does not mean the craft supplies side is small or casual. It has become a serious part of the business.

Craft Supplies Available From My Irish Website

You can browse the full craft supplies range in Crafter’s Haven but the site menu will give you each product by name.

Some of the main sections include:

Satin Ribbon – Smooth, versatile ribbon for gift wrapping, weddings, bows, card making, decorations and general craft projects.

Organza Ribbon – Light, sheer ribbon that works well for wedding favours, floral work, decorative bows and elegant packaging.

Ready-Made Bows – Handy pre-tied bows for gifts, hampers, favour boxes, packaging, party bags and quick finishing touches.

Gift Bags – Small drawstring and presentation bags for favours, jewellery, keepsakes, handmade items and thoughtful little gifts.

Favour Boxes – Useful boxes for weddings, parties, celebrations, small gifts, table favours and handmade treats.

A4 Card – Coloured craft card for card making, invitations, scrapbooking, school projects, signs and paper crafts.

Diamante Embellishments – Sparkly finishing pieces for cards, invitations, wedding crafts, decorations, gift boxes and creative projects.

I have built the ranges gradually, and I continue to add or improve products where I can. The aim is simple enough: to offer useful craft supplies that are actually stocked here in Ireland and ready to ship.

A Small Reason for Writing This Post

Recently, I came across an article listing places in Ireland to buy wedding ribbon, and David Condon Woodcraft was not included.

I completely understand why that might happen. At first glance, a website with “Woodcraft” in the name does not immediately sound like a ribbon or wedding craft supplier. That is part of the reason I wanted to write this post.

The craft supplies side of my business has grown into something far bigger than many people realise. I stock ribbon, bows, gift bags, favour boxes, card and other craft supplies here in Ireland, and many of those products are useful for weddings, favours, florists, invitation makers and small businesses.

I have also written separately about buying wedding ribbon in Ireland, especially for couples, invitation makers and anyone working to a deadline.

I have been happy to help many people source ribbons at very short notice before their weddings, especially when they needed something quickly and could not wait for a distant supplier, or when the item they wanted was not available elsewhere for fast dispatch or collection.

So this post is partly to explain the connection. David Condon Woodcraft may not sound like the obvious place to buy wedding ribbon, but the stock is real, the products are stored properly, and the craft supplies range has become a major part of what I do.

Final Thoughts

So yes, David Condon Woodcraft may not sound like the most obvious place to buy ribbon at first glance.

I understand that.

But behind the name is a small Irish business with real stock, careful storage, and a growing craft supplies range that I have built up one product at a time.

The woodturning side of the business is still very much part of what I do, but craft supplies have become a major part of the website too. If you are looking for ribbon, bows, bags, boxes, card or embellishments in Ireland, the Woodcraft name should not put you off.

The ribbon is not sitting beside a lathe covered in shavings.

It is stocked, stored, organised and ready to send.

Thanks for Reading,

David
